The food, art, music and histories of the diverse peoples of the West Indies and Caribbean are showcased during the Windy City Carnival season of events. This is where Carnival lovers come to experience Chicago’s version of this hemispheric phenomenon. With roots dating back to the 1990s, Carnival in Chicago was resurrected by husband and wife duo, Kirvan and Lystra Audain. Strength Behind The Scenes

Our Founders

Kirvan & Lystra Audain

Windy City West Indian Carnival, also known as Windy City Carnival, was founded in 2013 by Kirvan and Lystra Audain. After migrating to Chicago from their native land of Trinidad and Tobago; they met as teenagers in the 1970s, grew in love and joined hearts in marriage in 1980. Their love for one another is only surpassed by their love of the Lord. The Audains’ are both ministers of the Gospel, and in addition to Windy City Carnival, have also created the Kingdom Hawk 5 Ministries and Kingdom Fete organizations. These organizations were developed with the intention of being utilized as a resource to educate others about our culture, the unification of all people and service to underprivileged communities.
Mr. Audain was previously the President of Carifete (Chicago Carnival) in 2011. His experience on that team became the catalyst for the desire to resurrect the celebration of our Caribbean heritage that is Carnival. The Audains’ aspired to create an environment that was more inclusive of all ages, races, cultures, genders, and lifestyles. For this power couple the ultimate law is that of LOVE.
“Many beats…one rhythm” is not just a slogan, but is the driving force for pride in our heritage and appreciation of our shared humanity. We are one.
